About Us
The origin Story
Founded in early 2011, It’s Personal began as an intimate, invite-only gathering created for those who shared a love for quality music and genuine connection. It was never intended to be large or loud, but rather a space where like-minded people could come together and experience something thoughtfully curated and deeply felt.
What started as a small, unofficial event soon grew organically into a trusted platform for artists to express their sound freely, while guests discovered music within an atmosphere that felt intentional, welcoming, and authentic. The experience was shaped not by scale, but by feeling — a sense that every detail mattered and every person present contributed to the energy of the moment.
From the very beginning, It’s Personal has been about more than music alone. It has always been about people, shared energy, and memories that linger long after the final track fades.
The Picnic evolution
In 2014, It’s Personal embraced the outdoors with the introduction of the picnic concept, transforming the gathering into a daytime-to-night lifestyle experience that blended music, nature, and community. The evolution felt natural — an extension of the brand’s desire to create spaces where people could slow down, connect, and celebrate together under open skies.
Over time, It’s Personal Picnic has grown into one of Johannesburg’s most loved outdoor music experiences, recognised for its relaxed atmosphere, refined production, and carefully curated line-ups that balance discovery with familiarity.
Even as it has evolved, the essence has remained unchanged. The event continues to be guided by the same values it was founded on — intention, authenticity, and a community-first spirit.
Let’s Get Personal.
15 Years of It’s Personal
In 2026, It’s Personal celebrates 15 years of shared memories, meaningful connection, and enduring cultural relevance.
Over the past decade and a half, the brand has grown alongside its community, evolving naturally while remaining true to its spirit. What began as a gathering has become a movement shaped by the people who return year after year — drawn by a feeling that is familiar, intentional, and deeply personal.
In an industry where moments often fade as quickly as they appear, It’s Personal has continued to flourish through genuine relationships, a loyal and ever-growing community, and a brand identity grounded in authenticity and care. Each event has been more than music or celebration; it has been a space where connection, creativity, and shared experience come together effortlessly.
The 2026 edition marks a beautiful milestone — a reflection on the journey so far and a celebration of everything still to come. It is both a tribute to the past and an invitation into the future, as the brand steps into its next chapter with the introduction of It’s Personal After Dark, a new sub-brand within the It’s Personal stable.

At its core, It’s Personal has always been shaped by the depth of South African talent. A generation of artists who have not only defined our sound, but carried it across the world — with a quiet confidence, a refined ear, and an undeniable presence.
There is something unmistakable in the way our artists move a crowd — a feeling that is both effortless and deeply intentional. Each set becomes more than a performance… it becomes a moment, a memory, adding their mark to our story.
